BMW M42B18 Engine Specifications

BMW M42B18 is a 1.8 liters (1,796 cc, 109.6 cubic inches) straight-four, four-stroke cycle, naturally aspirated gasoline engine from the BMW M42-family. The engine was manufactured from 1989 to 1996. The engine features a cast-iron cylinder block, an aluminum head with a chain-driven double overhead camshafts (DOHC) and two valves per cylinder (16 in total) with hydraulic tappets. Cylinder bore and piston stroke are 84.0 mm (3.31 in) and 81.0 mm (3.19 in), respectively. Compression ratio rating is 10.0:1. This engine used a Multi Point Fuel Injection system (MPFI), the Bosch Motronic M 1.7 engine management system and coil-on-plug ignition system with fully electronic controlled ignition timing. Later versions of the M42 also feature a dual length intake manifold (DISA). The BMW M42B18 engine produced 136.0 PS (100.0 kW; 134.0 HP) at 6,000 rpm of maximum output power and 172.0 Nm (17.5 kgm, 126.8 ft-lb) at 4,600 rpm of peak torque for BMW 318i (E30) model (1989-1992 production years), or 140.0 PS (103.0 kW; 138.0 HP) at 6,000 rpm of horsepower and 175.0 Nm (17.8 kgm, 129.0 ft-lb) at 4,500 rpm of torque for BMW 318i (E36) model (1992-1996).
